MIX AND MATCH - TIMBALAND EDITION

I had, of course, planned this to land earlier. However times is tough, and I just got it together for an untimely release coinciding with a week after Timbaland Presents: Shock Value II came out. It’s a mixed bag with some real winners (The One I Love, Morning After Dark) some losers (joints with Katy Perry, Jet, and…fuck…Miley Cyrus) to some shockingly good tracks (songs with Daughtry and Nickelback’s Chad Kroger). One thing is always for sure: Timbaland is my favorite hip hop producer of all time. He’s not the same producer he once was, now boasting a team of production assistants that cause people to speculate just how much Timbaland is actually doing. On the best tracks, though, you can just hear that it’s Tim’s sound, an ever evolving drum database and funk- noise factory. There are plenty of tracks which TIm’s done which either never get the recognition they deserve, or never even see the light of day. I’ve compiled some of my favorites of which.

01 Timbaland and Magoo - We At It Again

A Romeo Must Die soundtrack number in a rare uncensored version which sounds a bit sped up from the album version.

02 LL Cool J - Rub My Back

While Tim’s album he produced for big LL left a bit to be desired (okay, a lot), this song is undeniably hip.

03 Timbaland and Magoo - Baby Bubba (feat. Petey Pablo)

LOVE the funk guitar, beat is crazy, and Petey is the bomb.

04 Missy Elliott and Busta Rhymes - Get Contact

A soundtrack cut featuring the parties at the top of their game.

05 Bubba Sparxxx - Open Wide (feat Sabastian)

From Bubba’s debut Dark Days, Bright Nights and featuring Timbaland’s brother (whose album may actually come out one of these days.)

06 Dirtbag - Here We Go

Rare, unreleased cut.

07 Brandy - Who Is She To You (feat Usher)

An unreleased version from Brandy’s album with Timbaland. I think the song is great as is, but having Usher on the track creates a conversation between two angry parties, and it’s a scorcher.

08 Dirty Ken and Additude - Valet

From Timbaland’s rare, all original mixtape to promote Bubba Sparxxx’s sophomore album Deliverance. It’s got a lot of great tracks, but this one is my favorite.

09 Jacki-O - Slow Down

A (maybe) released effort with a female rapper that showcases Tim’s wicked sense of humor, from the Twilight Zone intro to the Tarzan call, and the “lemme feel that tushee” in the background. It’s edited, I once had an uncut version which I can no longer find.

10 Sincere - What

Unreleased gem.

11 Missy Elliott - Pump It Up (feat Nelly)

From Missy’s This Is Not A Test comes this, a song with a ridiculous beat.

12 Timbaland and Magoo - Considerate Brotha (feat Ludacris)

From Timbaland and Magoo’s 2001 album (Magoo being his squak-rasp voiced partner for over a decade), this track is a laid back, smooth ditty.

13 Twista - Who Am I

I have no idea how Twista does this. From Tim's Bio: From Tha Basement

14 Lloyd Banks - My House

From Llyod’s shelved 2001 album, this is the only track from it which received a single release. Fantastic beat. Lloyd’s a different story. It’s the best he’ll ever sound, I’ll say that.

15 Ric-A-Che - Lil’ Bro

Unreleased gem. Beat’s a lot better than the rapper.

16 James Fauntleroy - Abducted

An unreleased demo of mediocre sound quality from a famed songwriter who MAY be attempting to make his own material. This may actually be produced by Timbaland’s protégé Danja, but it‘s up in the air. I LOVE this song, I really hope it gets spruced up and released.

17 Tank - I Love Them Girls part 2 (feat Timbaland)

Tank’s a songwriter who’s worked with Jamie Foxx most famously, he also had (has?) a career of his own, and this Part 2 (or remix) has an awesome sound.

18 Nelly Furtado - Maneater (Extended Mix feat Lil Wayne)

A fan made mash of the original and the little heard Lil Wayne remix, it’s absolutely perfect. The remix is hot as hell, sampling Phillip Glass’ amazing Candyman score, and breaking out a crazy mix of drums.

19 The Rapture - No Sex For Ben

A weird mix for sure. Hipster meets future-funk. This made it to the soundtrack for Grand Theft Auto IV.

20 Timbaland - Laff At Em (Give It To Me Part II) (feat Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z)

This is the most recent thing on here, but I felt is little known enough to be included. It’s one of my faves, I think Jay-Z rides this beat like an absolute master, and he’s always interesting when paired up with Tim. Justin is a natural fit, of course.

Alright. Got a bunch of posts half finished for the site's FOURTH ANNIVERSARY. Keep checkin’ back, and comment if you enjoy.
